- Read with a purpose! Whether you are reading for pleasure, information, or entertainment, you should always know what your purpose is. This helps you connect with what you're reading.
- Take time to read each day. Studies have shown that the quickest way to increase your reading comprehension is to simply read more often.
- Read closely! This means to take time with what you're reading to ensure you really understand it. This could be reading something multiple times, taking notes, making annotations, asking questions in your head or in the margins, making connections, highlighting new vocabulary, or making note of what confuses you. All of these strategies help you connect with what you're reading.
- Listen to books on recording. This is especially helpful if you're struggling with a very difficult text.

The URL is www.shmoop.com. Students have access to the site through Grosse Pointe Schools. Contact myself or Mrs. Greene for assistance.
